This turquoise is just as hard to photograph as it is to work. I have cut a few stones in my day but
never anything like this. The blue is a deep teal blue surrounded by quartz. Just fantastic.
Battle Mountain is known for its hardness, it is one of only a few mines that they found turquoise
deep underground. Most natural turquoise is soft in nature, and you must be careful with
your wheel grits or you will grind it all away.
This turquoise is so hard, you don't want to work too many at a time, it will wear you out.
But the stones it produces are so beautiful and unique.
This is a highly collectable turquoise that was mined up to 1980. To find it in the rough is
nearly impossible. The remaining rough is in museums and private collections.
As most turquoise rough that we have acquired, 26 lbs of it fell in our laps recently.
We took out a small amount before sending it off to the Safe Deposit box where it will reside
for the next decade.
This precious pound of stones are being worked into cabs for the sheer joy of working it.
There was over a pound of small pieces that are being offered in bags until gone.
The stone is backed, alot of the turquoise comes in flats, the backing allows for an even
surface for setting the stone.
Natural turquoise makes up less than 1% of the turquoise sold today. This is a rare treat.
You will notice, the matrix in the stone still has a "dry" appearance, as it is not stabilized.
The quartz ranges from off white to golden tan.
You will find sometimes the surface of the stones have what appear to be "dips".
As most of the Blue Gem Turquoise came in flats, and it is so hard, you will sometimes get that great
natural character in your finished cabs.
Cab size: 39mm x 30mm
Weight: 10 grams
This material sales for $31 per ct on the open market when it is found.
We are offering this stone at $10 per ct.

We are happy to create something for you. We have an extensive collection Vintage American turquoise from mines such as, Kingman, Royston, Morenci, Bisbee, Ithica Peak, Stormy Mountain, Number8, Damele. And my favorite, Sonora Sunrise. We work mainly with Sterling but are open to new things. Don't hesitate to contact us and we can discuss the stone and design you are interested in. You may custom chose your turquoise.
Most jewelry can be customized in some ways. New pieces can be designed and made per your size needs. Please contact us with any questions.
All Turquoise and most semi precious stones should be kept dry and not stored in sunny places. Natural untreated Stones can change color due to chemical exposure such as shamoo, soap, lotions ect. so make a habbit of removing your jewelry before using these things. Exposure to excessive heat and sunlight can cause fading so try not to store your stones in the sunlight.
Most American turquoise is backed, this is for the protection of the stone, it gives it a little impact resistance, rings and bracelets do take alot of bumping around. Some stones we will only set in Pendants as they do not take the abuse rings and bracelets sometimes see. There are many sterling cleaners on the market, we would be more than happy to polish for you.
